How can we help?
Group support meetings are held on the 1st Tuesday of each month 7.30-9.30 in St Albans (West) and Hertford on the 2nd Wednesday of each month 10.00-12.00 (East) although parents and carers attend from all areas of Hertfordshire.
The office is normally open Monday to Thursday 9.00-1.00. The telephone helpline service operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week and is answered by answer phone when there is no-one available. We aim to return calls within 24 hours. Call 01727 833963 and if asked to leave a message please speak clearly giving a landline number if possible for us to call you back.
We have a team of 8 Specialist Behavioural Coaches. These are very experienced parents of children and young adults with Autism & ADHD who have received extensive and specialized training to provide specialist behavioural coaching for families in their own home. One of our coaches can work with families on a one-to-one basis to enable them to reach their goals. This is often in achieving behavioural strategies and forms the basis for family harmony and cohesion. This in turn can enable families to move out from their social isolation back into community activities including school. For more information on coaching contact ADD-vance. (There may be a fee for this service). If you would like to download the ADD-vance Information Leaflet click here.
Training is an important element of our work and can undertake training at all levels for all aspects of Autism & ADHD to meet your needs and for groups of any size. We have recently been involved in training for the statutory services, education and health. In addition we have been commissioned to run specialist training for the emergency services and the police. Please enquire via the helpline on 01727 833963 or email Herts@add-vance.org for more information.
Library and other Resources
ADD-vance has a lending library of resources which includes many books for parents, teachers and siblings. We also have other resources of information leaflets and booklets which members can pick up at support group meetings or we can direct parents and professionals to the appropriate resources on-line.
We run free termly workshop courses in all areas of Hertfordshire for parents and we arrange activities and trips for families (including the siblings of course!)
Keeping in Touch
We send regular news and relevant information via email (where possible) to enable parents to feel in touch when they are unable to get to meetings. Many parents have difficulty getting babysitters as people are unwilling to sit with such challenging children. They can therefore feel very isolated and so keeping in touch is even more important. To contact us please click here and we will send you information by email.
