The ADD-vance and The Assessment Team project

The Assessment Team and ADD-vance have partnered to offer free ADHD or Autism assessments for Hertfordshire primary school children in Years 5 and 6 who are eligible for Free School Meals. Clinicians are donating 10% of their time pro bono to help reduce NHS waiting lists and improve county-wide access.

For us, the assessment was an extremely positive experience.  Both assessors were very warm, friendly and welcoming and my very anxious child managed to seperate from me for his part of the assessment.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply, your child must meet the following criteria: 

  • School Year: Attending Year 5 or Year 6 at a Hertfordshire state primary school.
  • Eligible for Free School Meals: must be verified by the class teacher. (Please do not apply if your child is not registered for free school meals).
  • NHS Waiting List: Currently on the NHS waiting list for either ADHD or Autism (only one assessment per child – we are unable to offer both assessments for the same child).
  • School Support: Supported by a named teacher or SENCO, with their direct email provided. They must verify Free School Meal eligibility and provide assessment information if selected.

Exclusions

The Assessment Project are unable to accept applications if any of the following apply:

  • High Risk/Behaviours: Children exhibiting severe aggression, self-harm, or suicidal ideation (better supported directly via NHS mental health care).
  • Safeguarding: Open safeguarding or child protection concerns.
  • Language: Families who require an interpreter service without private access to an English translator.

The ability to access the free assessment was amazing for us. It was no surprise to receive an ADHD diagnosis for my daughter, and the report was in depth and comprehensive. Having a diagnosis has helped me so much as a parent, with understanding and supporting her in a positive way. 

Selection Process

If you meet all the criteria above and would like to apply for a free assessment please complete the application form. 

Successful applicants are chosen electronically at random and notified via email. The supporting teacher must submit the required assessment information within 3 weeks. If the deadline is missed or eligibility fails verification, the spot passes to another family.
